Imagine coming home after a long day, ready for a quiet cup of tea. The kettle is boiling, you reach for your favorite cup… and it’s not in the cupboard. It’s in the sink. Dirty. In fact, they’re all dirty.
Before you can enjoy your tea, you have to wash the cup
In the same way, when God wants to use us — maybe to encourage someone, offer help, or share His love — He needs us to be a clean vessel.
📖 Psalm 51:10 says,
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Sometimes we carry things in our hearts — pride, bitterness, impatience, hidden sin. And Scripture reminds us:
📖 Psalm 66:18 says,
If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.
That doesn’t mean God can’t hear — it means our fellowship is hindered. Just like when a child is being disobedient, the relationship isn’t broken — but it isn’t sweet either. Restoration comes when there is repentance.
A reminder that becoming a clean vessel is always one confession away.
📖 1 John 1:9 says,
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
He washes the cup.
A surrendered life is a usable life.
📖 Romans 12:1 says,
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Guarding the heart keeps the vessel pure.
Proverbs 4:23 says,
Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Full joy is connected to abiding and fruitfulness.
John 15:8 & 11 says,
Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
When we keep short accounts with God, we’re ready at a moment’s notice for Him to use us. And there is no greater joy than being used by Him — trusting His plan instead of trying to control everything ourselves.
Some things to remember:
Keep your cup clean.
Be ready.
Let God use you.
